HS codes are required in UAE from 29th February 2024

Posted: 14th February, 2024

As of 29th February 2024, the UAE National Advance Information Center (NAIC) requires 6-digit HS codes on MAWB and HAWB level for all goods being imported into, exported from, or transiting through the United Arab Emirates.

So, what does this mean for you?

The 6-digit HS codes will need to be provided for each MAWB and HAWB for UAE import, transit and export shipments t the carrier prior to cargo acceptance.

For Consolidated shipments in which the shipment is associated to more than 1 HAWB, the HS code needs to be provided on the HAWB level. In addition, the Goods Description must include “consolidation” on the Master.

For Direct shipments in which the shipment is only associated with the MAWB, the HS code needs to be provided on the MAWB level. The actual Goods description must be mentioned on the Master.
